24 hours in the convent.

This morning I woke up at 6:30AM, got dressed and went to the chapel for mass.  After mass I sat in silence for 30 minutes for meditation then sang my way to the kitchen where I had a simple breakfast.  Instead of gardening with my sister, I took a nice nap.  Before lunch, I prayed and meditated a little more.  I must say the last 24 hours of my life has been nothing but pleasure.  24 hours of praying, eating, sleeping and quality time with sister.

It was a nice break from my world of running errands, studying siSwati, shopping, and the constant flux of thoughts.  As I sat in front of a fish pond, enjoyed the morning's dew and the calming breeze I can't help but miss Vietnam.  This morning did not bring back the memories of Saigon, or the delicious food I ate with my friends or the families I visited in my internship.  However, it brought me back to my uncle's current house-the house that belonged to my grandfather. A sense of serenity, a sense of childhood innocent was all I need to take me out of my hole.

I came to the convent wanting to spend a few extra hours with my lovely sister however I think deep down I needed it more for spiritual reasons.  I needed to reconnect to Him, to feel his presence once again.  The chaotic life was supposed to disappear after school ended only escalated thanks to preparation for Peace Corps.  I've been so caught up with all my emotions--anger, fear, sadness, excitement, nervousness--that I completely neglected my spiritual journey.  Time to step back and refocus my lenses.  First, I know I need to let go, learn to forgive.  A smaller and easier task would be to stop gossiping.  Life's a garden. Dig it!!

Current status = GRUMPY

I despise Friday's traffic and Texas heat.

Other than the general feeling of frustration and annoyance, I'm completely overwhelmed at this point.  There are gazillion of things I need to do before June 23rd!!!

*Things to do*

-Finish The Tibetan of the Dead project.  I don’t care if anyone will ever watch it or appreciate the translation but I will finish it.

-Teach diagraphs to my kids and have them read at a level 3 or 4.

-Make a scrapbook.  Go through old pictures, take new ones, print and put it all together.

-Finish knitting my scarf.

-Finish reading the current books.

-SHOP, SHOP, SHOP.  Visit REI; buy dresses, skirts, shoes, contacts, and extra pair of glasses, medicine, plus anything useful and practical.

-Take care of paperwork: visas, passport, and power of attorney.  Draw up a will just in case.  I don’t want to be on life support for too long and & I want to be cremated.

-Find more yummy local restaurants.

-Learn a new language.

-Live mindfully.  Spend more time with family and friends.  Laugh and cry.
